PARK FALLS — A crypto mining business will need the approval of the Park Falls Planning Commission prior to moving portions of its operations outdoors or planning other modifications outside of the former downtown paper mill buildings they now lease.

After a nearly two-hour meeting on July 21, the seven member commissioner approved the motion of Victor Ambrose to withhold action on the SOS application “to expand the additional facility to place two data service modules for Bitcoin mining operation.” The commission instead acted to allow the applicants to supplement their application with a total build out plan to include measures for noise suppression, fire suppression, a comprehensive plan, proof of permitting and any other supplemental information from similar data mining sites and the impact of operating in urban areas would be helpful for the commission in reaching a decision.
